Ingredients for the cupcakes:

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 tablespoon red food coloring

1 teaspoon white vinegar

Ingredients for the cream cheese frosting:

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

Set the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C). Cake liners are used to line a muffin tray.

Mix the salt, baking soda, and flour in a medium-sized bowl. Put it aside.

Using a hand or stand mixer, beat the softened butter and sugar in a large mixing basin until the mixture is light and fluffy.

One egg at a time, adding and thoroughly mixing after each addition.

Create a paste by combining the red food coloring, vanilla extract, and cocoa powder in a small bowl. When the mixture of butter and sugar is well blended and the batter takes on a vivid crimson hue, add this paste and stir.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients gradually, starting and finishing with the dry ingredients and alternating with the buttermilk. Take care not to overmix; only mix sparingly.

In a small bowl, combine the baking soda and white vinegar.
