How to Make Saffron Rice

Ingredients:

1 cup of long-grain rice, usually basmati.

2 cups of water or vegetable broth

A pinch of saffron threads

2 tablespoons warm milk

2 tablespoons butter or olive oil

Finely chopped small onion

Minced 2-3 cloves garlic

Salt to taste

Chopped cashews, almonds, and raisins are optional garnish ingredients.

Directions:

Saffron Infusion:

Soak the saffron threads in warm milk that has been poured into a small bowl. Let them sit undisturbed in it for about ten to fifteen minutes in order for the flavor and color of the saffron to mix well with the milk.

Rice Rinsing and Cooking:

Rinse rice under cold running water until water is clear to remove starch.

Put rice and water or vegetable broth into a pot/ rice cooker.

Bring to boil, then reduce heat, cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes until rice is cooked and liquid absorbed.

Saffron Rice Preparation:

Heat butter or olive oil separately on medium heat in another pan.

Add onions which have been chopped up finely and cook until they become transparent.

Cook again after adding pressed garlic minceturia.

Fluff gently with fork when done cooking.

Pour cooked rice over the mixture of saffron-infused milk ensuring it gets evenly coated on all sides.

Salt as desired.

Garnishing and Serving:

For added taste and texture, you may choose to sprinkle chopped nuts like almonds or cashew nut or raisins over your saffron rice if you feel like it’s necessary.

Serve the hot spicy flavored saffron rice as a side dish along with different types of main courses.
