Traveling around the globe not only allows us to view new places but also allows us to taste a vast array of flavors that are custodians of diverse cultures. Each country has its must-have delights for food enthusiasts. Below is a checklist of international tastes that every daring eater should enjoy.

Japan: Sushi and Ramen

Sushi: This Japanese delicacy combines vinegared rice, fresh fish, or sometimes tropical fruits and vegetables. There are different kinds of sushi including nigiri (fish on top of rice), maki (rolls), and sashimi (thinly sliced raw fish).

Ramen: A famous Japanese noodle soup containing Chinese-style wheat noodles served in a meat or occasionally fish-based broth flavored with soy sauce or miso and garnished with ingredients like menma (bamboo shoots), nori, sliced pork, and green onions.

Italy: Pizza and Gelato

Pizza: Italian pizza is renowned for its thin base, thick tomato paste, fresh buffalo mozzarella cheese, and other toppings such as rocket leaves and prosciutto crudo. Its simplicity and use of fresh ingredients make it the best-tasting pizza in the world.

Gelato: Gelato is an Italian type of ice cream that is denser and richer than the American one. Coming in flavors from stracciatella(chocolate chip) to pistachio, gelato provides a creamy luscious taste suitable for any sweet tooth out there.

India: Biryani and Masala Chai

Biryani: A fragrant rice dish cooked from basmati rice, spices, and meat(chicken, mutton beef, fish, etc.)or vegetables. The biryani is permeated with deep aromatic flavors; through this technique of layering the ingredients slowly.

Masala Chai: It’s a typical Indian spiced tea that mixes black tea with sugar with milk and spices like ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves. It’s a drink for you to enjoy when relaxing.

France: Croissants and Coq au Vin

Croissants: These are buttery and flaky baked goods that forms an essential part of French breakfast for all meals. The best croissants are fresh from the Parisian bakery.

Coq au Vin: A traditional French dish comprising stewed chicken in red wine with mushrooms and garlic. It is a rich dish that will leave your mouth watering, a true representation of rustic French cuisine.

Mexico: Tacos and Mole

Tacos: This is a basic Mexican meal with corn tortillas either hard or soft filled with various things such as cheese, beans, grilled meats, salsas, etc.

Mole: An intricate sauce that is often thought of as being representative of Mexican cooking. Chili peppers, chocolate, spices, and nuts make up mole, which is usually served over chicken or enchiladas; to provide a combination of flavors ranging from sweet to spicy ones.

Thailand: Pad Thai and Tom Yum

Pad Thai: Pad thai is rice noodles stir-fried together with eggs, tofu or shrimp in tamarind paste/fish sauce; sprinkled with crushed peanuts and lime juice on top. The taste is unforgettable since it balances sweet-sour/savory perfectly.

Tom Yum: A hot/spicy soup made using elements like galangal (blue ginger), kaffir lime leaves lemongrass, lime juice fish sauce, and pounded chili peppers(sometimes shrimps). Its taste makes this soup very refreshing thus invigorating too.

Lebanon: Mezze and Baklava

Mezze: For Lebanese people, Mezze is a platter of appetizers consisting of several small dishes served in the Middle East and Mediterranean countries. Examples of these include hummus, tabbouleh, baba ghanoush, falafel among others. It is an array of tastes and textures that are meant to be shared.

Baklava: Baklava for instance is a sticky delicacy filled with chopped nuts that are held together by syrup or honey between layers of filo dough which lures you towards it even from afar as it can be found all over the Levant and beyond.

Ethiopia: Doro Wat and Injera
Injera: A sourdough flatbread prepared with teff flour, injera is used in Ethiopian cooking as a dish and utensil. To mop up savoury salads and stews, use it.
Doro Wat: A common dish in Ethiopian homes is doro wat, a fiery stew made with chicken. Traditionally served with injera, it is made with niter kibbeh (clarified butter) and a blend of berbere spices.


Greece: Souvlaki and Moussaka
Moussaka: Layers of eggplant, minced beef, and béchamel sauce are combined in this Greek casserole, which is baked until golden. It’s a hearty, flavorful dish with lots of texture.
Souvlaki: Grilled or skewered meat, usually lamb, chicken, or pork, served with pita bread, salad, and tzatziki sauce. A classic Greek street dish that is straightforward but delicious.

Brigadeiros and Feijoada in Brazil
Feijoada: A black bean stew made with different types of pork; feijoada is the national food of Brazil. It is typically eaten with rice, collard greens, and orange slices. It’s a filling dish that showcases a variety of Brazilian cooking styles.
Brigadeiros: Condensed milk, cocoa powder, butter, and chocolate sprinkles are the ingredients for these bite-sized chocolate sweets. They are a popular dessert in Brazil that is frequently offered at parties.
